I went to the grocery store. Yes, I cleaned first — that was last night’s project, and since It Is Forbidden that one cook AND clean on the same night, we got subs from John’s, which is right up the street and has the best subs EVER. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Cleaning accomplished, I vowed to go to the grocery store today on my way home from work. On the same day the weatherpeople were predicting snow in tones usually reserved for Armageddon. Sigh. Fortunately, my boss told me to go and work from home fairly early in the day, so I fought my way through the bread-and-milk-and-toilet-paper-seekers and managed to get enough food to finally restock my fridge.
I’m hoping to make both Jamie Oliver’s roast chicken and Pioneer Woman’s pot roast this week — it’s definitely a cozy, roasty, wintery sort of week. A good time to curl up with solid, belly-warming food and maybe a cute kitty (who will probably get to lick the plate when I’m done). I’ll admit I’ve been craving the bright, fresh flavors of summer lately, but I’m going to make a concerted effort to enjoy and appreciate the foods of winter.
